Becoming An Interior Designer With Kayla Goldstein

Listen to the Episode Here:

Starting her career at the age of 19 with a student job as a drafter, she has graduated as an Architectural Engineer and worked in architecture and interior design firms before opening her own business in 2015. Kayla's passion is Interior Design especially for family homes “creating spaces that create memories”.

Kayla shares how she started her relationship with interior design started way back when she was about 5 years old. Her parents bought a house that needed a lot of help, and they went about making it a most beautiful home.

She was enthralled with the process and never really got over it. She used to sketch layouts in class, binge watched YouTube videos on how to design, and even took any free course on interior design that the internet provided.

When it came time to go to college, she was advised to go for architecture. Kayla had the brains for it and it would make more money than interior design. She listened and graduated with an architectural engineering and interior design degree. She moved to the US (Kayla grew up in Israel) and got a job as a drafter in an architects' office. She hated it. She hated leaving her baby and sitting at a computer all day, but she learned a ton.

Eventually Kayla moved to work in an interior design firm as an assistant. This was much better but she felt like she could do a lot more. She was getting free-lance clients just from people who knew her and eventually decided to go full-in on her own business while being a stay at home mom.

Kayla truly believes that your surroundings impact your moods, productivity, and energy levels.

She now gets to spend time with her two kids, take care of her own home, and follow her passion to bring moms' dreams to life.

In today's episode we talk about postpartum depression and how she overcame it by deciding to get her new house in order and making it beautiful for her and her family. Living in a space she loved helped her realized that if she was able to accomplish that, she could accomplish other things, so little by little she got out of depression.

Kayla truly believes that your surroundings impact your moods, productivity, and energy levels. She has seen the transformation in moms when they love their homes and their homes work they get to function better. She has seen it so many times, and been inspired by it, that she vowed to never stop.

She currently lives in Pomona NY with her husband, 2 kids and dog.
